I saw over at the Goody Blog that Payless is introducing the
Friendship Shoe, a canvas Airwalk® sneaker that comes with a marker kit to design and decorate any way you like. Payless will donate 100% of the net profits from sales to the The Fresh Air Fund, which sends New York inner-city children to rural camps and suburban host family homes for a free summer vacation. I love this idea... the only question I have is, Will You Sign My Shoe? =)
Today you turn 4 years old! It's hard to believe that so much time has passed since the day when I held you for the very first time. After 23 hours of laboring and pushing, you were finally here. I was so exhausted that I wasn't sure I was up for the task at hand. But you were so alert... just like a little bird... looking around with those big almond eyes... your long eyelashes brushing your cheeks even then. Holding you, I felt restored.
Even now, I am overwhelmed with so many thoughts and feelings just looking at your face... You and I could communicate even if neither of us could talk. Perhaps it is just the bond a mother has with her firstborn, but I love that we can share precious moments even without words. And then there are times when your words render me completely speechless... Every time you say, I love you Mom, I want to grab you and never let go. The other day you smiled at me and said, You're so beautiful Mom, and I had to catch my heart from leaping away from me.
Every day I thank God for you... for giving you to me and your Dad... and for giving Dylan such a brave older brother. I love you my sweet boy. Happy Birthday!
~Mama
Monday night, CBS news ran an exclusive interview with Dr. Bernadine Healy, the former director of N.I.H. (National Institute of Health). Healy talked about about how the government has dismissed the link between vaccines and autism without looking carefully at the evidence. For the complete CBS story, click here.
Monday morning, I nervously awaited a phone call from my sister Tiffany, who had gone in for an ultrasound to find out the sex of her baby due in early September.
I was positive that she'd continue the trend of boys in our family, but nope - she's having a little girl!
When I told Wyatt last night that his cousin Joey was going to have a little sister, he told me to roll over so he could check to see if there were any baby brothers for him inside my tummy. I told him that he already had a baby brother, to which he replied, "But I want TWO baby brothers!"
One of the things I'm going to miss most about Virginia is how close we are to so many mini natural wonders. We spent last weekend at Great Falls under gorgeous skies and warm breezy weather. The boys loved climbing the rocks up to the viewing areas and following the creek upstream, where they even saw a big water snake swimming beside them.
I'm soooooo ready for Ben to come home tonight. And the boys are, too. Wyatt got hurt at the playground the other day and cried, "I want Daddy!" This morning he came into our room, running straight to Ben's side of the bed and said, "Hey, Daddy still isn't home." Dylan's been acting just as forlorn... walking through the mall the other day, he saw an Indian man and called, "Daddy!" I know Ben won't be home before the boys go to bed, but at least I know tomorrow everything will be back to normal.... and I can finally crash.
Now that Robeez has rocked out several
new lines in the past year, I'm a little bitter. Where were they when my boys were born? I can't complain, because I've loved just the plain old Robeez. But their newest collection goes all out for newborns, offering sophisticated designs, fancy packaging and new sizing... like 0-3 months, so their little feet don't get swallowed up by the 0-6 month size.
Little feet are so cute!
Free coffee! On Thursday, May 15 Dunkin’ Donuts will be giving away FREE iced coffee. You can receive the free 16 oz regular or Berry Berry iced coffees from 10 am to 10 pm. It may not be the most sophisticated coffee in the world, but I've had a secret crush on Dunkin Donuts coffee for years (Don't tell Starbucks =).
Yesterday I took the boys to Big Truck Day in Herndon. Basically, it's where kids get to explore lots of big trucks, tractors, bulldozers, etc. We've never been and I was expecting it to be a madhouse, but... I got front-row parking and the lines weren't too bad. Best part was Wyatt and Dylan LOVED it.
It's going on the rest of the week... admission is FREE and includese a hard hat for each kid, refreshments, and bathrooms (located inside the municipal center).
Over the weekend, we gave Wyatt an early birthday present... we wanted him to have time to ride his new bike before putting it on a moving truck for a week later this month. He loves it like a child... happy when it obeys him, but frustrated when it doesn't. When he struggled to get it up a hill, he put it in the garage and told me it was a bad bike. But clutching his helmet in bed last night, he whispered, "I love my bike." =)
This is my best friend's little girl Ainsley. She's 4 - born 25 days before Wyatt - and almost the spitting image of her mom. I love that she is named after me... and that we both love the soundtrack to High School Musical and Enchanted. =)
When she was born, they dubbed me Big Ainsley as to not confuse Ainsley's older brother Braden when he was little. And when we talk about her, we say Little Ainsley... just to clarify. It's never phased me to be referred to as Big Ainsley for descriptive purposes... but I was a little surprised to be addressed as such. The other morning as I was getting ready at their house, Little Ainsley came up to me and said sweetly, "Excuse me, Big Ainsley?..." Now THAT might give me a complex!
The other day Wyatt came across a children's book that I wrote when I was 8-years-old. I was such a perfectionist when it came to my writing... I remember pulling an all-nighter just to get it completed for school on time.... and still being totally dissatisfied with the final product. But Wyatt thought it was the coolest thing ever, and kept asking me to read the pink book to him. He doesn't know it, but he's my biggest fan. =)
